Wiranto: There is no Referendum Option for Papua

SELAYARPOS.COM ■ The Coordinating Minister for Politics, Law and Security Wiranto stressed that there was no referendum option for Papua. Previous referendum demands arose after various actions that took place in Papua.

This was conveyed by Wiranto in a press conference after attending a limited meeting led by President Joko Widodo at the Merdeka Palace in Jakarta on Friday (8/30/2019) night.

"Our agreement is not to talk about a referendum, not to talk about independence! NKRI is a fixed price, it has become our collective agreement and based on the UN's decision that West Irian, Papua, West Papua become a legal part of Indonesia," Wiranto said.

Wiranto said, the government had done everything possible to reduce the demonstrations that led to riots in a number of areas in Papua.

In addition, on Friday afternoon he also met with a number of Papuan leaders at the Kemenkopolhukam office, Jakarta.

"We have made various efforts so that the hot atmosphere can recover, this afternoon we have met from community leaders from Papua, young people, there are also representatives sitting in the DPD, and the Parliament," he said.

"We are talking about what happened there, not in the wrong blame forum, but talking about how soon we can stop the riots," Wiranto added.

The meeting was attended by a number of Papuan leaders, including, former Minister of Maritime Affairs and Fisheries Freddy Numberi, Yorrys Raweyai, young Papuan leaders Samuel Tabuni, Alfred Papare, Frans Ansanay, Willem Frans Ansanay, Victor Abraham, Victor Abraham Abaidata, Yan Mandenas and Airis Waimuri

"If the situation is tense, the situation is hot, it must be able to enter a peaceful atmosphere so that dialogue can be carried out because dialogue is not possible if it is chaotic, so the riot must be calm first before it can dialogue," said Wiranto.

Wiranto claimed President Joko Widodo also wanted to go directly to Papua.

"Certainly going to Papua at the right time," said Wiranto.

Reported earlier, President Jokowi chaired a limited meeting (ratas) attended by Vice President Jusuf Kalla, Foreign Minister Retno Marsudi, National Police Chief Gen. Tito Karnavian, Minister of State Secretary Pratikno, Head of the State Intelligence Agency (BIN) Budi Gunawan, TNI Commander Marshal Hadi Tjahjanto and Cabinet Secretary Pramono Anung.
